Kylie Jenner-approved designer teams up with the FDNY

With regular clients like Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid, you might not expect Danielle Guizio to count the New York City Fire Department as one of her biggest inspirations.

But to hear the young designer tell it, the FDNY was actually a perfect choice of partner for her new capsule collection.

“I wanted to work with someone New York-based because my brand is New York-based, and who’s better than the FDNY?” Guizio told Page Six. “Everything that they stand for, their bravery, their job is to keep New York City safe, so to me there was no one else that I wanted to collaborate with.”

Guizio’s brand typically features lots of glitter, leather and embellishment, however, which isn’t exactly synonymous with firefighters. “I was a little nervous to approach them,” she admitted.

The FDNY was not only receptive to the idea of a collaboration, but also remained involved throughout the design process. Following multiple, rigorous rounds of approval — anything related to September 11, for instance, was purposefully excluded for sensitivity — Guizio and the group landed on a range of sweatshirts, sweatpants and outerwear featuring colorful, creative takes on the FDNY’s logo. Prices range from $85 to $550.

Obviously, FDNY is an iconic logo and it stands for so much,” Guizio explained. “Not only that, but it’s an iconic logo both in New York and worldwide. I think it’s very easily recognizable to someone who doesn’t live in New York.”

Added the designer, “It’s fun to put twists on [the logo], like make it leopard or add rhinestones, and that’s something you don’t find even in a gift shop. We were definitely inspired by tourism merch.”

Among the stars likely to step out in the new collection? Jenner, who was the first major name to sport Guizio’s clothes after the designer sent the star’s stylist a T-shirt back in 2015. “I didn’t really know much about what I was doing, so I just took a chance and sent it her way,” Guizio explained.

Jenner went on to wear the shirt multiple times, and similarly repeated a pair of Guizio’s faux leather pants ($188) last month. Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin are both fans of her colorful satin corsets ($138), and Guizio also frequently dresses singer Halsey.

Now even firefighters and regular New Yorkers can have something in common with Kylie Jenner.
