These four very rich people maxed out on donations to Caitlyn Jenner - SFGate

In her bid to become the next governor of California, Caitlyn Jenner has raised at least $294,000, records from the California Secretary of State's office show.

Despite some of her stumbles in the early months of the recall campaign, four separate individuals have given Jenner a maximum donation of $32,400. Unlike Gov. Gavin Newsom, who can raise an unlimited amount of money as he defends himself against the recall, his challengers are constrained by individual contribution limits.

Here are the four people who have maxed out on donations to Jenner.

Bob and Renee Parsons

Bob Parsons is the founder of internet domain registrar GoDaddy.com and in 2020, was estimated to have a net worth of $2.2 billion, placing him 378th on Forbes' list of the 400 richest Americans.

Both Parsons and his wife, Renee, gave the maximum amount to Jenner, whom Parsons has apparently played golf with in the past. Jenner's transgender community activism has also intersected with the Bob and Renee Parsons Foundation, the couple's philanthropic organization. Both Bob and Renee Parsons listed Scottsdale, Arizona, as their primary place of residence on the state filings.

Parsons donated $1 million to Mitt Romney's Super PAC in 2012 and was an early backer of Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP presidential primaries, stating in 2015, "He doesn’t necessarily have a great plan, but what he does is when he takes over an operation, he puts good people in all the slots, and they will do a good job in leading the country. That’s why I like him.”

In October 2016 — right before the general election — Parsons then said he was undecided on who to vote for, tweeting, "I'm leaning towards Trump though still undecided. Reason is I sure like his running mate Pence." After Trump won, Parsons donated $1 million to his inaugural committee.

Parsons has also taken credit for GoDaddy's controversial Super Bowl advertisements that have been characterized as sexist.

"The Go Daddy girl was my idea," he said in 2009. "I told the ad agency, 'I want a really well-endowed, good-looking gal in a tight T-shirt, with our name right across her breasts.' We did a nationwide casting, and then the agency called me and said, 'Bob, we just found your next ex-wife.'"

Angus Mitchell

Angus Mitchell, the son of celebrity hairstylist Paul Mitchell, also gave Jenner a maximum donation of $32,400.

Along with John Paul DeJoria, Paul Mitchell founded popular hair product manufacturer John Paul Mitchell Systems, which is now a corporate sponsor of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation.

In 2015, the Daily Mail described Angus Mitchell, born in 1970 and also a celebrity hairstylist, as a "multi-millionaire" and the "heir to the Paul Mitchell hair care fortune." The Daily Mail reported that he was embroiled in an ugly divorce, in which he allegedly had his personal chef serve his wife the divorce papers and engaged in a bitter battle for child custody.

In 2018, Mitchell was the subject of a sex discrimination lawsuit that alleged he used his workplace "as a hunting ground to find women to date and have sex with.”

Interestingly enough, Mitchell donated $500 to Newsom's 2018 gubernatorial campaign.

Kelly Sellers

The most low-profile of the bunch, Sellers works for Improve One LLC, a consulting firm based in Austin, Texas. The firm registered as a foreign limited liability company in September 2018 and maintains a very low public profile.

Sellers has not made any political contributions in Texas or at the federal level and has no known connections to Jenner.

While Sellers, Mitchell and Bob and Renee Parsons are the only individuals who gave Jenner the maximum amount, former Corporation for Public Broadcasting chairwoman Cheryl Halpern gave Jenner a $20,000 donation, which is $12,400 shy of the max. Halpern is active in Republican politics, as she once served as coalition chairman for the New Jersey Republican Party and is on the board of trustees at the conservative Jewish Policy Center.
