Kendall Jenner saved the boldest look of her recent New York City fashion tour for the 2023 Met Gala.
After a weekend of rare appearances around the city, Jenner ascended the Metropolitan Museum of Art's famous carpeted steps for the annual Costume Institute Benefit wearing a black Marc Jacobs bodysuit dripping in sequins—and little else. The statement piece included extra-long sleeves with white quilted lining that trailed behind her like a split cape as she walked.
Jenner dialed up the drama even more with her accessories. The model walked the carpet in a pair of lace-up platform boots, coordinating with her black bodysuit. She completed her look with a high ponytail and glittering pieces by Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry.
"I feel amazing, I'm so happy to be here," Jenner said in a red carpet interview. The evening's theme and dress code were in honor of the late Karl Lagerfeld, who had cast Jenner in some of her first fashion shows. "It's a little emotional. I owe a lot to [Lagerfeld] and what he did for me," she reflected. "I started working with him when I was really young and really new, and he really embraced me."
Jenner has been teasing a major fashion moment all week with a string of sightings around New York City. On Saturday, April 29, the 818 tequila founder attended a Karl Lagerfeld retrospective event hosted by the luxury boutique What Goes Around Comes Around in a semi-sheer, cobalt couture gown by Alexandre Vauthier. The next evening, she was seen leaving a date with Bad Bunny wearing a Paloma Wool top, Blumarine skirt, and Blumarine boots.
Jenner's look for the 2023 Met Gala is the latest in a string of memorable appearances at the annual event. For 2022's "Gilded Glamour" theme, she wore a Prada set that featured a sheer black top and a voluminous black skirt covered in cascading ruffle details. Her beauty look, featuring a stark middle part for her hair and bleached eyebrows, was one of the biggest risks of the evening.
The fashion tour may not end with a pants-free moment on the famous Metropolitan Museum steps. In previous years, Jenner has also attended the Met Gala's many after parties—and changed into even more notable evening looks for the occasion.
