If there was one Y2K trend I thought would never see the light of day again, it's probably the bubble skirt. Kylie Jenner just proved me wrong.
On June 8, the 26-year-old business mogul shared a series of vacation snaps in a low-rise white mini skirt featuring a true bubble hemline, which she paired with a matching white bralette tied behind her back with a bow. “Wishin i was still hereee ☀️,” she captioned the pics, tagging her fashion brand, Khy.
While the bubble hem was popularized in the ‘80s, it took on new life in 2005 thanks to red carpet moments from the likes of Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton, and other Y2K It-Girls. And although bubble skirts were certainly popular amongst Hollister shoppers around that time, a mid-length bubble dress was truly the moment—and I’m not just saying that because I wore a purple bubble dress to prom.
Nearly twenty years later, what's old is new again. Vogue even gave millennials fair warning in May, writing that “bubble girl style is here." The cloud-like silhouette has been cropping up all over runways and cool, niche influencer feeds for months, meaning it was only a matter of time before it was embraced more widely.
