Columbus Blue Jackets sign forward Boone Jenner to four-year extension - BlueJackets.com

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Boone Jenner to a four-year, $15 million contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2025-26 National Hockey League season, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Jenner, 28, has registered 121 goals and 119 assists for 240 points with 309 penalty minutes, 21 power play goals, 20 game-winning goals, 1,291 hits and 1,261 shots, while averaging 16:36 of ice time in 530 career regular season games over his nine-year NHL career. He ranks among the franchise's top-10 career leaders in numerous categories, including hits (second), shots (third), goals (fourth), game-winning goals (fourth), points (sixth) and power play goals (eighth). He has posted double digit goals in all six of his full NHL campaigns, recorded 30-plus points in four-straight seasons from 2015-19 and 200-plus hits on four occasions. The center/left wing, who has served as an alternate captain with the club since 2015, has added 8-7-15 in 37 career Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.

"We are very pleased to have come to terms with Boone, who has been an integral part of our team for the past eight seasons, on this extension," said Kekalainen. "From the day he was drafted in 2011, Boone has been a consummate professional with his work ethic, character and leadership. He is an important part of our hockey club and ensuring he remains a Blue Jacket for years to come was a priority for us this summer."

Selected by Columbus in the second round, 37th overall, at the 2011 NHL Draft, Jenner notched 8-9-17 with six penalty minutes, 76 hits and led the club in faceoff percentage (55.1) on 18:00 of ice time in 41 games in 2020-21. He set a career high in assists and finished with his second-highest point total in 2018-19 with 16-22-38 in 77 contests. In 2015-16, the 6-2, 207-pound forward set career highs in goals, points, penalty minutes and shots with 30-19-49, 77 penalty minutes and 225 shots in 82 appearances. His 16 goals as a rookie in 2013-14 are the third-most by a first-year player in club history, trailing only Pierre-Luc Dubois (20, 2017-18) and Rick Nash (17, 2002-03).

The Dorchester, Ontario native has represented Canada in international tournaments on several occasions. He helped the country capture gold at the 2016 IIHF World Championships with 2-2-4 in 10 contests. He also skated in the 2012 and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championships, earning bronze at the 2013 tournament. Prior to turning pro, he tallied 111-135-246, 265 penalty minutes and was +23 in 227 career Ontario Hockey League appearances with the Oshawa Generals from 2009-13. He served as the club's captain in his final two OHL campaigns from 2011-13.
