Longmont police early Sunday morning responded to a report of a stabbing at a home near Sixth Avenue and Martin Street, to find two victims — a husband and wife — both of whom were taken to local hospitals.
Within a half hour, officers arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the stabbings, police said in a press release. Jose Rafael Mares-Arredondo was arrested near 10 Ninth Ave. about 2:15 a.m. Police said that Mares-Arredondo is a family member and lived at the home with both victims, and that there is no danger to the public.
Longmont police and fire personnel responded to the address at Sixth and Martin about 1:52 a.m.
“Upon arrival, they located a 61-year-old male victim, who had been stabbed multiple times. The victim directed officers to his wife, who was in their home. … Officers entered the home and located a female victim, age 54, who had also been stabbed,” the release said. “Both victims were transported to hospitals in Longmont. The male was later transported, via air ambulance, to a hospital in Denver. At this point the female’s condition is stable and she is expected to survive. The male was seriously injured and his condition remains critical.”
