Kylie And Kendall Jenner Appear To Break Lockdown Rules At Justin And Hailey Bieber's House Party - elle.com

Kylie and Kendall Jenner appear to have flouted Los Angeles strict prohibition on gatherings during lockdown by attending a house party thrown by Justin and Hailey Bieber.

In March, Californian mayor Eric Garcetti banned all ‘public and private gatherings of any size that would occur outside of a single home’.

‘Individual and family gatherings or parties of any size aren’t allowed,’ Los Angeles County Department of Public Health information published on August 13 dictates.

After an increase of large parties in California during the summer, Garcetti recently stated that Los Angeles will be authorised to shut off utility supplies to properties where large gatherings are held, describing the parties as ‘nightclubs in the hills’.

However, the rules haven’t stopped Justin And Hailey Bieber from throwing a party for singer Justine Skye with celebrities like Kendall, Kylie and model Winnie Harlow in attendance.

In photos shared by the Daily Mail, the celebrities arrived at the party and were seen embracing without masks. In addition, Bieber and Skye shared selfies from the extravaganza which see them cuddled up together with their friends.

According to California’s mandate, residents must wear masks outdoors, especially in public areas where they are unable to keep six feet apart from other people whom they are not in quarantine with, as well as indoors when spending time with people not from their household.

‘You should wear face coverings when in public places, particularly when those locations are indoors or in other areas where physical distancing is not possible,’ it clearly states on the California Department of Public Health website.

Earlier this month, the Jenner sisters also appeared to ignore California’s non-essential travel advice to visit Turks and Caicos to celebrate Kylie’s 23rd birthday.

According to state rulings: ‘You can travel for urgent matters or if such travel is essential to your permitted work. Even though businesses around the state are opening up, avoid traveling long distances for vacations or pleasure as much as possible. This is to slow the spread of the coronavirus.’

It adds: ‘If you do travel, take steps to keep everyone safe like wearing a face covering, keeping six feet of physical distance from those not in your household, and washing your hands frequently.’

While the Jenners, Biebers and their friends might have undergone Covid-19 tests and tested negative, therefore mitigating their risk of spreading the disease to each other to an extent, the group seemingly have still ignored California's lockdown rules.

Earlier this month, California became the first US state to surpass 600,000 Covid-19 cases, according to the Financial Times.

As of August 24, the state had 670,144 confirmed cases, including 41,436 in the past week. At least 176,927 people have died from Covid-19 in the US to date.

Since lockdown rulings came into force earlier this year, younger people have accounted for a large share of infections. The Times recently reported that people aged 18 to 49 now account for more hospitalisations than those ages 50 to 64 or those over 65.

In May, Khloé Kardashian responded to criticism that her famous family failed to follow strict lockdown guidance at Scott Disick’s birthday party.

‘Not even trying to be rude,’ the 35-year-old replied to one comment after sharing a photograph of herself and the father-of-three and another of her two-year-old True at the gathering, US Weekly reports.

‘Drives me wild when people act as if they know. Of course we want to protect ourselves. Simply for the sake of our angels, not to mention our own health. But it’s human nature I guess.’

Another photo’s caption reads: ‘Stay safe! Stay smart! Reminder, to keep gatherings small. 10 people maximum.'

‘They are all cousins,’ she reportedly wrote to one fan after sharing a photograph of her nieces and nephews playing together. ‘So we know how they have been quarantined and there’s less than 10 people with us. It’s literally what the governor states is perfectly OK to do in the state of CA.’

At the time, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, stated that small gatherings could take place among individuals from separate households as long as numbers were limited and social distancing was in place.
