Alexander Wang might have appeared to land everyone from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift for the brand’s latest ad campaign — but it turns out these celebs are faking it.
“100% certified authentic ricco back in stock 5.22,” the designer captioned an Instagram Reel last week that featured a bevvy of celebrity impersonators showing off the Alexander Wang Ricco flap bag ($1,050).
The ad featured Ariana Grande doppelgänger Paige Niemann, Taylor Swift double Ashley Leechin, Beyoncé lookalike SurB and Taylor Madison, who bears a striking resemblance to Kylie Jenner.
Each “star” held Wang’s black pebbled leather bag up to the camera in the Reel, showing off the edgy style’s adjustable strap and studded silver bottom.
They definitely committed to the bit, with Niemann wearing the “thank u, next” singer’s signature blond high ponytail with a sequined dress and SurB sporting a very “Levii’s Jean’s”-inspired denim-on-denim look.
Leechin, who wears Swift’s go-to red lip, rocks a pink cropped sweater and jeans in the Reel, while Madison channels Kylie Jenner’s casual looks in a comfy black hoodie.
Fashion fans had plenty to say about the controversial designer’s new campaign, like one who commented on Wang’s Reel, “Ordered celebrities from Temu much like your garments.”
“This video is diabolical lol,” another Instagram user wrote, while a third added, “What in the bootleg celebrity is going on?” while multiple called out the “uncanny valley” vibes of the video.
This isn’t the first time Wang — who vowed to “do better” after multiple sexual assault accusations in 2021 — has caused a stir in recent days.
The designer featured Naomi Campbell wearing nothing but silver spikes all over her body in a November 2023 campaign and, in December, he gifted Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s 10-year-old daughter, North West, with a crystal-studded bag featuring an image of her mother’s crying face on it.
No matter what this brand comes up with, it will definitely get people talking.
