Kris Jenner: I have to be able to show son-in-law Kanye that 'I'm here if he needs me'

Kris Jenner showed off her diplomatic skills while discussing son-in-law Kanye West's Oval Office meeting during a Friday appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

When the TV host brought up the subject, she conceded that Jenner is in a "tough position" when it comes to discussing West's disjointed, nearly 10-minute monologue from his Oct. 11 meeting with President Trump in which he discussed the lack of male energy in his family, how wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap made him feel like Superman and how he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was really just sleep-deprived.  "But at some point, it seems like we have to address (it)," DeGeneres said.

Jenner called West's stream-of-consciousness soliloquy "very spontaneous," adding that he brought up hydrogen-powered airplanes, "I was like, 'Oh my gosh, that's so Kanye.' " Still she admitted, "I would rather he share some of that stuff privately. That would be great, but I have to be able to show him that I'm here if he needs me."

DeGeneres, who said she's known West for a long time, then addressed a struggle that affects many family members of people with mental-health issues: "Is he letting you be there? ... I know that side of him but right now, we're seeing a different side of him."

Jenner confirmed, "You've known him a long time. I've known him a long time and he does have different sides to him. And this is a side nobody's seen before."

DeGeneres then wondered how best West's friends and family can support him: "What we don't want is people piling on because he's in a very vulnerable state right now. And I think he needs help. You can say, 'We want to be there for him'  but it has to be really tough for you, for Kim, for everyone because it's your family."

Jenner conceded, "It's a lot."

The "momager" of the Kardashian//Jenner/West clan said she and daughter Kim are aware they can't control what he or other people do.

"You all know, you have kids and they might have a totally different opinion about something," she reasoned. "Well, his (opinions) are very strong and he's very opinionated. He has a big voice and he has a lot to say."

Adding a bit of levity to the situation, Degeneres cracked, "Yeah, and he has access to the White House."
