Kylie Jenner has largerly outgrown her Keeping Up With The Kardashians fame through Instagram followers, but it took quite a few years for her to become a social media influencer who could even outpace her sister Kim Kardashian. When Kylie first appeared on KUWTK, she was only 10 years old. Over the years, the fans watched as the youngest Jenner sibling kept growing into the very successful woman that she's become. At such a young age, Kylie is an accomplished businesswoman, a homeowner, and a mother. She's come a long way since the E! show came out.
What is truly impressive about Kylie Jenner is how she's been able to forge her own path away from all the exposure that comes from appearing on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It is important not to negate the fact that Kylie's fame and business endeavors certainly have a lot to do with all the notoriety that she and her family members got from reality TV, but it is still something to note that she has left the series behind a long time ago and, for years now, has made nearly all of her money from her own businesses and social media following.
It was around the time that Kylie Jenner reached 17 years old that she started to show a lot of potential as a social media influencer. It was 2014, and Kylie had already reached 15 million IG followers, which wasn't too far behind her sister Kim Kardashian's 22 million followers. A year later, in 2015, Kylie grew to 46 million followers on Instagram, then doubled down and reached 80 million followers in 2016. That was the first sign that a serious match-up between KUWTK stars Kylie and Kim was happening very soon. Kylie crossed the 100-million mark in 2017, then reached 121 million followers in 2018.
In hindsight, 2019 was a real milestone for Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian on Instagram. That is because Kylie ended the year with 153 million followers, whereas Kim finished off with 154 million. This was the most glaring sign that it was just a matter of time for Kylie to overtake her sister in their total number of followers on IG... and that's exactly what happened in 2020 when Kylie crossed the 200-million mark (ending the year with 206 million) but Kim fell short (ending the year with 190 million). Right now, Kylie has 221 million followers on Instagram, which is way more than Kim's current 210 million.
It is fascinating to examine how far Kylie Jenner has come since leaving behind her regular role on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. As the family moves on from the E! series and starts a new project on Hulu, it'll be interesting to find out what Kylie does with that new platform.
