Kylie Jenner Criticized for Asking Fans to Donate to Her Friend's GoFundMe - Newsweek

Kylie Jenner is facing a backlash on social media after she asked fans to donate to a friend's GoFundMe campaign.

The fundraising page was set up to help pay for the medical bills of makeup artist Samuel Rauda, who was injured in an accident on March 14 and has since undergone major surgery, according to the page.

As of early Sunday, the page has amassed almost $100,000 in donations, exceeding its initial $60,000 target.

Earlier this week, 23-year-old Jenner had taken to her Instagram Stories to ask her fans to donate to Rauda's GoFundMe page.

"May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel," she wrote. "Everyone take a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his families [sic] go fund me."

The reality television star and entrepreneur appears to have donated $5,000 to the page herself. It is not known if Jenner has made any private contribution to the medical bills.

However, many on Twitter have pointed out that Jenner—as 2020's highest-paid celebrity with earnings of $590 million, according to Forbes magazine—could easily afford to cover the cost of Rauda's medical bills herself.

A wave of critical tweets prompted her name to trend on the platform on Sunday.

In other words, paying off her friend's medical bills would be like a buying a premium latte for Jenner.

"Her makeup artist apparently needs $60k. Kylie Jenner paying that would be like someone with $100k net worth sparing $6.72 to pay off a friend's medical bills," Charlotte Clymer tweeted.

Legal analyst Imani Gandy tweeted: "How in the cinnamon toast f**k is Kylie Jenner asking for donations for her make up artist when she's a goddamn billionaire. Is that broad for real."

In another tweet, Sophia Ross noted Jenner has reportedly spent $300,000 on a Birkin bag and a $3 million Bugatti Chiron in the past.

Meanwhile, stand-up comic Billy Procida joked: "If I were Kylie Jenner, I'd pay my make-up artist $60,000 to not tell people I won't pay for your surgery."

While journalist Ambika Muttoo tweeted: "I don't mostly care abt the Kardashians but this makes me mad. Kylie Jenner, who is a BILLIONAIRE, is asking ppl to donate to help a close friend get emergency brain surgery. He needs $60k. She makes $1.2 MILLION per IG post. She's only given $5K? WHAT? It's an embarrassment."

Jenner had been dubbed the world's youngest "self-made" billionaire by Forbes in March 2019, but the magazine later struck her from their list of billionaires and accused Jenner and her family of inflating the value of her cosmetics company.

As of October 2020, the magazine lists Jenner's net worth at $700 million.
