Braless Kendall Jenner inspires cosmetic surgery trend: 'Designer nipples'

Kendall Jenner has apparently been having what she herself would call some “really good boob days.”

In just the past week, the 22-year-old model has twice hit red carpets at the Cannes Film Festival, wearing gowns with sheer tops that offer a teasing view of her nipples in all their perky glory.

In this way, Jenner continues to embody the #freethenipple hashtag — and to seemingly inspire a growing number of women to hit the offices of cosmetic surgeons, seeking procedures that will make their nipples as noticeable as hers, especially when they’re not so hidden beneath sheer or clingy fabrics.

In fact, “designer nipples” has become a cosmetic surgery trend, according to recent reports by the New York Post and Allure magazine.

The term “designer nipples” was coined by New York City plastic surgeon Norman Rowe, who told the New York Post in a video: “The more prominent nipple has become a very popular look and a trend.”

Rowe also told Allure he’s been offering the procedure for years, but it’s become more popular lately with patients “desiring nipples like their favorite reality stars.”

Over the past year, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star has frequently flashed her nipples while donning designer outfits and strutting the catwalk at major fashion shows or when she hits the street to run errands or to go out to clubs. She has also talked in interviews or written on social media about how she’s proud of her body and delights in going braless.

“I think it’s cool and I really just don’t care! It’s sexy, it’s comfortable and I’m cool with my breasts,” Jenner wrote on her website in 2016, People reported.

Back in February, she also posted a selfie (that’s since been taken down) showing her wearing a sheer black T-shirt, according to People. She wrote: “I don’t know if you can relate, but I just felt like I was having a really good boob day, lol.”

After creating a stir with one of her nipple-revealing outings at the Cannes Film Festival, she joked about how she was the victim of a wardrobe malfunction. She posted on Instagram a photo of her in the outfit with the simple caption: “Oops.”

In the New York Post video, a 28-year-old women comes in to Norman Rowe’s office for a consultation and tells the doctor why she wants nipples like Kendall Jenner.

“I love Kendall Jenner, and I love that she just doesn’t wear a bra,” the woman says. “You can’t see her nipples, but you can see the pointiness. I think there’s something really sexy and feminine about it.”

“I think it would be really cool to just have protruding nipples all the time,” the woman continues.

To give this woman what she wants, Rowe told the Post he injected her nipples with a hyaluronic acid-based filler, which he said adds volume to the nipples and ensures their silhouette can be seen through fabric. The procedures only takes about 10 minutes but its effects can last up to two years.

“I like them!” the woman says after the procedure. “Now I don’t have to be cold to have hard nipples.”

Pricing for the filler Rowe uses starts at about $700. Allure quotes Rowe as saying that patients also undergo short procedures to get “smaller areoles, smaller nipples, larger areoles, larger nipples, a change in color and/or change in the shape of the areola, or any combination thereof.”

Allure interviewed another New York City plastic surgeon, Darren M. Smith, who has also seen an increase in the number of patients — women and men — seeking nipple enhancements. However, Smith told Allure he prefers using a different filler — a biocompatible, implant-based solution.

Smith added that there are risks associated with injecting a filler directly into the nipple. After all, he said, the nipple has a biological function that aids sexual pleasure and that’s important for women who become mothers.

“The nipple is a very sensitive structure that is packed with nerve endings for sensation and milk ducts for breastfeeding,” Smith told Allure. He said the filler could clog milk ducts or cut off the blood supply that’s necessary for breastfeeding.

Rowe, however, didn’t have many patients concerned about the risks, he told Allure. Apparently, the possibility of getting Kendall Jenner nipples is worth the costs and any future health consequences.

“The risks are getting too many compliments,” he said.
