Kendall Jenner hospitalized before the Oscars…

Kendall Jenner almost didn’t make it to the Vanity Fair Oscars party Sunday night! That’s because she briefly ended up in the hospital.

No, the 22-year-old supermodel didn’t fall off her stiletto heels and break something, nor was she suddenly overtaken by a bout of that monster flu that was going around last month.

As it happens, the Kardashian family member had “a bad reaction” to a treatment that celebrities are increasingly subjecting themselves to — all in the hopes of gaining a host of beauty and health benefits.

The Blast reports that Jenner’s routine for prepping for Oscars weekend included “a vitamin drip.”

Yes, this treatment is exactly what it sounds like: a high-dose intravenous infusion of vitamins.

According to Shape magazine, celebrities, including Rihanna, Madonna and Simon Cowell, have become fans of rolling up their sleeves and willingly taking a needle into their arms.

As Shape reported, the IV delivers a saline solution into the veins that carries different combinations of vitamins, depending on one’s needs at the moment. One vitamin combination promises to burn fat; others claim to promote better skin and hair and boost immunity or to help cure hangovers, overcome jet lag or reduce stress. There is even a combination that claims to improve sexual performance.

A treatment means a client needs to sit around for 20 to 30 minutes, but it is “relatively painless,” Shape reported. So, presumably a celebrity could multi-task while getting an infusion — maybe by also getting a pedicure or dictating tweets to her social media team.

For its report, Shape interviewed the medical director of a Miami, Florida-based company called VitaSquad, whose menu of vitamin treatments are mentioned above. On its website, VitaSquad describes itself as “a mobile intravenous nutritional therapy service” which is “taking health and fitness to the next level” by bringing personal wellness treatments straight to clients’ homes, offices or hotel rooms. VitaSquad infusions range from $95 to $175.

VitaSquad medical director Jesse Sandhu acknowledged to Shape that there haven’t been any randomized controlled studies on whether vitamin infusions deliver the promised benefits. But Sandhu told Shape: “People notice an immediate dramatic effect after receiving an infusion.”

An expert from Yale’s School of Public Health is skeptical of this fad. David Katz, M.D., a clinical instructor in medicine, advised Shape that there’s not enough scientific evidence to suggest such treatments are beneficial — or safe and healthy. He agreed that clients could enjoy an immediate pick-me-up, but that could be due to a placebo effect or to increased blood flow from the increased infusion of liquids.

Moreover, he expressed concern for potential bad reactions — perhaps of the kind that overcame Jenner and almost cost her some high-profile schmoozing at the Vanity Fair party.

The reactions could happen because infusing vitamins directly into one’s veins bypasses the gastrointestinal tract, Katz explained to Shape. The GI tract contains several layers of immune system defenses that filter out potentially harmful molecules, which, in turn, can potentially cause some kind of allergic reaction. Katz added that the risk of infection “goes up any time you take IV lines or any medical equipment outside of a standard healthcare setting.”

The Blast didn’t indicate who gave Jenner her treatment or whether it took place at a hotel near the Dolby Theatre, where the Academy Awards took place, or at her recently purchased mansion in Beverly Hills.

But once the reaction hit, Jenner, or her people, hustled her over to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, according to The Blast.

Fortunately for Jenner, her reaction was quickly addressed, and she was released a short time later. The Blast said she was seen looking “fabulous” Sunday night at the big Vanity Fair soirée in Beverly Hills.

There she was able to schmooze with Oscar winners and nominees, including Allison Janney, Jordan Peele, Margot Robbie. Frances McDormand and Mary J. Blige as well as other celebrities like Tiffany Haddish, Gal Gadot, Drake, Sean Combs and sister supermodel Naomi Campbell, Page Six reported.

One person also at the Vanity Fair party was Jenner’s parent, Caitlyn Jenner, but Page Six noted that Jenner seemed oddly reluctant to be photographed with the former Olympian-turned-transgender activist.
