More often than not, a well-loved handbag serves as a personal style marker along the road of life. Every woman remembers her first “adult bag,” the one that helped her seal the deal on her first major job interview, say. Kendall Jenner has carried some pretty chic pieces on her path to supermodeldom. Flash back to a few years ago and Jenner’s early days on the festival circuit, when her Coachella look was comprised of a bikini top, cropped vest, and oversize shorts. Her purse of choice? A swingy little hands-free fringed bag. Then came the 22-year-old’s not-a-girl-not-yet-a-woman phase, when she would adorn all of her polished carryalls with colorful froofy pom-poms.

We have Jenner to thank for the cool, new, and improved off-duty model wardrobe (remember when it was all biker jackets and skinny jeans?). She takes risks where her runway colleagues play it safe. Her most fashion-forward handbag? The humble fanny pack, a geeky trend she helped go viral last summer. It hit peak popularity last June when Jenner slung on a vintage monogrammed Louis Vuitton version, twinning with her then rumored beau, A$AP Rocky. More recently the Prada nylon fanny pack has taken pride of place in her accessories arsenal; she styles it with her own easy swagger, looped across the body à la hypebeast instead of at the hip. Other throwback handbag standouts of note? A vintage Dior Rasta saddle bag that Jenner wore with an unbuttoned-to-there sheer shirt while in New York in late last July.

Her newest looks are just as head-turning. It’s clear she’s having fun experimenting with extreme handbag proportions; she’ll tote a micro purse for a night out on the town, then lug a toddler-size Hermès Birkin bag to a baby shower the morning after. (The jet-set model considers the Birkin a “perfect airport bag.”) Maxi or mini, fancy or functional, it’s fair to say this supermodel has got arm candy for every occasion.
