If there’s one style of clothing Kylie Jenner loves to wear and wears well, it’s latex. On Sunday, Jenner posted a selfie on Instagram sporting yet another tight, baby blue, strapless latex dress.
This is one of several latex ensembles the beauty mogul has worn over the years, from dresses to tube tops and trousers, Jenner always makes it look effortless. Jenner famously made headlines for her controversial Interview magazine cover in 2015 when she wore a latex bodysuit while sitting in a gilded wheelchair. Since then, she’s made latex a part of her regular wardrobe.
But wearing latex takes a lot of work. First, you have to apply either a water lubricant, talc power or similarly baby powder, before slipping on the latex; otherwise, you risk ripping the fabric. According to Atsuko Kudo, a high-end couture latex brand, additional rules are recommended when wearing latex. They suggest you keep the latex away from heat, oils, and metal to prevent unwanted stains and damage. It is highly recommended to invest in a latex polish as well, to give the fabric extra shine. This all might seem like a lot of rules, but it hasn’t deterred Jenner, nor a myriad of other celebrities to hop onto the latex trend train.
For example, Nicki Minaj wore a latex dress on her Paper magazine cover in 2017 and several times prior too. Beyoncé famously wore a beige latex Givenchy gown on the red carpet at the Met Gala in 2016. Kim and Khloé Kardashian are regular latex wearers just like Jenner. For these celebrities, specialty labels like Vex, Baroness, and Atsuko Kudo are traditionally the go-to for those looking for high-end latex. But if you’re looking for something more affordable, Fashion Nova and Australian label Meshki have great options.
