Kendall Jenner Pulls a Modern Renaissance Fashion Moment

On the runway, the duty of supermodels is to showcase a designer’s new idea or proposition for the season—perhaps the hemlines are longer for spring, or the fabrics lighter and less constricting. Yet off the clock, they are known to set trends of their own, too. After all, it’s how the idea of “model-off-duty style” came into being. If Kendall Jenner’s latest look is any indication of where fashion is heading next, it’s that silhouettes are about to travel back in time—way, way back.

Jenner attended the Ninth-Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Los Angeles this weekend wearing a modern take on the low, squared neckline, a shape that was especially favored during the 18th century. Her minidress, a design by Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, was woven with multicolored flowers and features slightly puffed sleeves and a built-in bodice, another nod to the pulled-tight corsetry often favored during those early ages. To take the aesthetic very much into the now, though, she accessorized the ensemble with minimal pointed white slingbacks by Ellery, a white leather croc-effect shoulder bag by By Far, and bronze squared-shape sunglasses by Peter and May. A throwback dress, with It girl accessories.
